Sapphire

Sapphire belongs, together with ruby, to the corundum family, yet stands apart for a colour range spanning deep blue, pink, yellow, green and colourless. The most sought-after hue remains the velvety, slightly violet-tinged blue historically associated with Kashmir and Ceylon.

Sapphire quality is assessed through four related criteria: the saturation and tone of the colour, internal clarity, precision of the cut, and origin. Sri Lankan stones are known for their liveliness, Burmese sapphires for their regal depth, and Madagascar has in recent decades emerged as a source of exceptional material.

In our selection, we work exclusively with unheated sapphires. Heat treatment has become the market standard, yet it fundamentally alters the nature of the stone. An unheated sapphire carries its colour unchanged since its formation in the earth's crust — a rare property, and one of enduring value to collectors and jewellers.
